Ditch Day is an institute-wide holiday that happens once every year at an undisclosed time. Usually on Ditch Day, Caltech Seniors organize fun house-wide popular-themed stacks for the underclassmen to do. These stacks often involve solving puzzles, cracking locks, cooking dishes, playing archery tag or laser tag, or going to the beach or mountains - it is a full day's worth of non-stop activity and excitement, and on the day after Ditch Day, underclassmen pride themselves on being able to find every Caltech senior and tying them to a tree. Ditch Day has a rich history that dates back to the 1920s. You can read about it
